Love (1 Corinthians 13)

"Love is patient, love is kind,
it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud,
it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

For today we're looking at the first five actions of love:

  1. Love is PATIENT (makro-thumei): able to take the heat

  2. Love is KIND (chresteu-etai): compassionate, gentle, helpful

  3. It does not ENVY (zeloi): jealous of what others have

  4. It does not BOAST (perpereu-etai): brag arrogantly about what I have

  5. It is not PROUD (phusi-outai): puff up (as a bellows)

For Reflection:

  1. Who was the last person who you remember got mad at you? How did you respond? What can you do to be "makro-thumei" next time if it happens again?
  2. What gifts do you have? How can you use them to serve others and bring glory to your Creator who gave you those gifts?
  3. Think of at least one person you want to demonstrate love to during this coming week. What is an act of kindness you can do to serve him/her?
